PowerShell is a command-line shell and automation engine that has become the preferred technology for large-scale management of Windows and Microsoft server applications, first introduced for managing Exchange Server and Windows Server.
The PowerShell support lifecycle is linked to the .NET support life cycle, which alternates between Long Term Support (LTS) versions that provide three years of support and current versions that are supported until three months after the subsequent version becomes available.
