  • Breaking changes will impact some AAD identity management technologies through 2024. 
  • Custom Microsoft 365 user provisioning and other management processes are most likely to be affected.

The accompanying timeline shows potential breaking changes announced for Azure Active Directory (AAD) and related technologies in Sept. 2022. (Breaking changes are changes or retirements made to services, APIs, and other software that are likely to or expected to break organizational deployments based on earlier versions.) Microsoft had previously announced deprecation of many of these technologies, but the announcement provides a more specific timeline for organizations to prioritize migration away from the deprecated technologies.

AAD API and Script Shutdowns

Shutdowns that could affect custom provisioning scripts and the like include the following:

AAD Graph API services could be shut down without notice any time after June 30, 2023, and applications using it should be migrated to the Microsoft Graph API.
