Analyst ReportOnly Arm-Based Surface Pro 9 Enables All Windows 22H2 Features
Only the Arm-based Surface Pro 9 with 5G provides hardware support for some highly promoted features of Windows 11 22H2. Organizations that are acquiring new hardware due to the increased security requirements for Windows 11 may be disappointed to find that even newly announced or recently acquired devices do not support the latest Windows 11 features.
For example, consider the Windows Studio camera and audio effects, featured in a keynote at the recent Ignite conference by Microsoft Executive Vice President and Chief Product Officer Panos Panay. These Windows Studio effects can improve online meetings by filtering out background noise, blurring the background without leaking images if the speaker moves, ensuring eye contact to make a better connection with other participants, and better framing the speaker, so the camera stays on the person speaking, even if they move. However, the effects require a hardware neural processing unit (NPU) for acceptable performance, a feature that is only available on the Arm-based Surface Pro 9 with 5G.
