Beginning in Mar. 2023, Microsoft will replace its PDF rendering engine in the Edge browser with Adobe’s on Windows 10 and 11.
Security Improvements, Subscription Reminders
Microsoft indicates it is working with Adobe to ensure the Adobe PDF stack is as secure as the Microsoft PDF stack. To achieve this goal, Microsoft and Adobe are implementing a variety of security-enforcing and development technologies, including the following:
- Secure heap technology that keeps different object types separated
- Compile-time mitigations such as Intel’s Control Flow Enforcement Technology or Microsoft’s own Control Flow Guard, which protect against memory corruption
- Fuzzing
