Analyst ReportHow Should Customers Handle Yammer’s Retirement?
- Yammer will be retired in 2023, with its existing features moved to other services.
- Viva Engage and Viva Connections will take over most functionality previously provided by Yammer.
- Customers may need to consider licensing and retraining implications of the retirement.
Yammer is a Microsoft-hosted social networking service for organizations that offers collaboration spaces with groups, conversations, and data sharing. In a Feb. 2023 announcement, Microsoft indicated that the Yammer brand would be retired and tenants automatically switched to a replacement service, Viva Engage. While this migration does not change licensing, Viva Engage will start to offer premium features that will require organization-wide licensing to use.
Yammer Features Migrating to Viva
Yammer offers Web-based collaboration spaces with groups, conversations, and data sharing in a newsfeed interface similar to public social-networking services, such as Facebook and Twitter. Yammer is offered in two versions: Yammer Basic and Yammer Enterprise.
