Analyst ReportTeams Premium Brings Enhancements and Confusing Licensing
- Teams Premium improves meetings and webinars and incorporates features originally available in the base Teams license and Advanced Communications.
- Teams Premium is licensed as an extra-cost, per-user add-on and is not included in any current Microsoft 365 suites.
- Most features require only the event organizer to be licensed, but several require licenses for users and administrators, which can raise costs.
Teams Premium, generally available as of Feb. 2023, is a Teams per-user add-on that includes several enhancements for meetings, webinars, and structured 1-1 meetings called Virtual Appointments. It will interest organizations that frequently use Teams for sales and consultation meetings, that need in-meeting translation or enhanced meeting recordings and summaries, or that have found Teams’ webinar feature set incomplete. Additionally, meeting security capabilities in Teams Premium will interest customers with regulatory compliance requirements or a need to otherwise protect meeting content from being copied without permission.
