During the first half of 2004, Microsoft restructured the existing Content Management Server (CMS) 2002 product line and added better integration with SharePoint Portal Server. CMS helps organizations manage the publication and display of content on large, complex Web sites, and lets content authors create and publish Web pages without knowing HTML or underlying site design. The restructured product line provides significantly lower prices for customers. While Microsoft has abandoned plans for a unified e-business suite, code-named Jupiter, of which CMS was a component, some form of unification between CMS and Microsoft’s portal product line could still be in the cards.

Now Available in Two Editions

CMS 2002 now comes in two editions, Standard and Enterprise. The existing product became CMS 2002 Enterprise Edition, and the new Standard Edition has all of the capabilities of Enterprise Edition, with the following exceptions:

  • No more than 15 users can contribute content
  • It runs on only
