Office, OneCare Subscription Suite

A forthcoming bundle for consumers will include the latest versions of Office, OneCare, and various Windows Live and Office Live offerings. Although the bundle, code-named Albany, will consist mostly of desktop software, Microsoft will charge users subscription fees just as it does for services. If users stop paying, they will lose access to some items in the bundle, including Office. Depending on pricing, which has not been announced, Albany could appeal to customers who want productivity and security software at a lower initial price.

Combining Office, Antivirus, and Live Clients

Announced at the end of Apr. 2008, Albany will include the following programs with a unified installation and configuration process:

  • Office 2007 Home and Student Edition, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote
  • OneCare, Microsoft’s subscription-based antivirus and PC maintenance offering for consumers.

It will also include the following software components, which Microsoft already offers as free downloads, but which will be integrated into the Albany installation process:
