Dynamics CRM software, offered as both an on-premises product and as an online (Microsoft-hosted) service, will be updated every six months, starting with an update planned for the last quarter of 2011. Dynamics CRM helps workers manage marketing, sales, and customer service processes and provides a platform that customers, solution providers, and ISVs can modify for customized or “extended CRM” business processes, such as logistics. The new roadmap promises to bring quicker improvements to Dynamics CRM customers, but also raises questions for those who customize the product or use it as a platform.

Service, Software Updates Twice Yearly

Microsoft plans to update both the Dynamics CRM Online hosted service and the on-premise software every six months, alternating between minor releases and major ones. The company also plans to release add-ons for the service and software through its Dynamics Marketplace online store. (For retirement dates of current and past versions, see the chart “Important Dates for Dynamics CRM“.)
