Office 365, a set of services combining the next versions of the Microsoft Online Services (such as Exchange Online) with subscription licenses to Office 2010 Professional Plus, is expected in late June 2011. Office 365 offers comprehensive management capabilities but has some limitations, notably in migration tools. When used by an organization with an Active Directory (AD) domain infrastructure, Office 365 can be managed as an extension of the organization’s existing IT processes. Partners are likely to fill in gaps in management and provide migration tools from third-party messaging software and SharePoint on-premises servers, although they may find opportunities in managing Office 365 for customers.

Getting Started with Office 365

Office 365 is a replacement for Microsoft’s Business Productivity Online Suite (BPOS) and includes the next versions of the following Microsoft-hosted services:

Exchange Online, powered by Exchange Server 2010
SharePoint Online, powered by SharePoint
