A new online service, now available free for testing, can help identify and fix software problems with Windows and Microsoft applications. Fix it Center Pro, now in beta, can scan Windows computers, both desktop and servers, and look for configuration, network connection, or performance problems, among others. The user then can choose to upload the results to Microsoft’s servers for analysis. The information is processed to check against Microsoft’s databases of known issues and the results are posted to the user’s Fix it Center Pro dashboard. IT professionals can also use the service to track work items and escalate selected problems to Microsoft’s paid support center.

Scan, Analyze, Report

Fix it Center Pro is based on a Web service hosted by Microsoft Support, which developed and used the tools internally. The site is intended for IT professionals and can help diagnose problems with a user’s Windows desktop or a server. The service might be used by small businesses or by Microsoft partners who deliver support for small businesses. But Microsoft may directly attract more paid support customers by reaching those who would be too small for Premier Support.
