Three Office 365 suites target knowledge workers at medium and large businesses as well as small organizations with sophisticated needs. Designated E1, E3, and E4, they are packaged in a Russian doll fashion, with each higher edition’s features being a superset of the lower edition. Prices quoted are per user, per month and represent the highest a U.S. business customer would pay. (E1 includes the capabilities of the former E2 plan, which was eliminated in 2013.)

Each of the suite components can also be purchased stand-alone (see the illustration “Exchange, SharePoint, and Lync Online Stand-alone Levels“), but the suites offer a 20% to 40% discount compared to buying the components separately. Specifically, E1 provides the equivalent capabilities of Exchange Online Plan 1, SharePoint Online Plan 1, and Lync Online Plan 2. E3 and E4 include the capabilities of Exchange Online Plan 2, SharePoint Online Plan 2, Lync Online Plan 2, and also include rights to Office Professional Plus for Office 365.
