Dataverse Roadmap

Dataverse is a cloud database service designed to make it easier to create and use data in business applications than with conventional database technologies. Dataverse is the primary data storage mechanism for the Power Platform, including Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Virtual Agents, and Power BI, and for Dynamics 365 CRM. The service is designed to let information workers create and use business-specific data without needing advanced database design and manipulation skills.

Near Term (2024–2025)

The near-term roadmap for Dataverse focuses on simplifying forms creation in Power Apps, data migration, and features to customize data templates for a specific organization. Updates will focus on the following areas:

Data features will expand to include automatic e-mail validation in Power Apps, when a Dataverse column is tagged as type e-mail, removing the need to write a manual validation process. Microsoft indicated that this feature is considered early adoption to test product market fit for future AI-driven smart data layers. A second feature, designed for administrators who are performing data migrations, will allow for data plug-ins to be bypassed so that data can be moved without triggering workflow executions, which can help organizations move data into Dataverse without writing separate processes.
