Analyst ReportExchange 2010, Voice Online
Exchange Server 2010 installations are now available to customers of Exchange Online Dedicated, which offers Microsoft-hosted e-mail and other services on dedicated hardware, typically for installations of 5,000 or more users. The Apr. 2010 update to Exchange Online Dedicated delivers Exchange 2010 features (such as Conversation View for managing mail threads) as well as features previously limited to on-premises Exchange installations, such as Outlook synchronization over HTTP for users connecting over the Internet and Exchange ActiveSync push service for mobile phones.
Also introduced in Apr. 2010 is a new Online Voice service for customers who use Exchange Online Dedicated with the Communications Online Dedicated unified communications service. Online Voice provides Exchange Unified Messaging voice mail and calling between user PCs and phones on the public switched telephone system (PSTN), among other capabilities. Online Voice does not enable calling or voice-mail integration with phones on an organization’s private branch exchanges (PBXs). Communications Online Dedicated already offered calls between PCs inside of an organization, but didn’t enable voice mail or PSTN calls.
