Many new Windows Vista features are also available for Windows XP SP2 and Windows Server 2003 SP1, including the following:

Internet Explorer 7, the first new version of Microsoft’s Web browser since 2001, includes important security improvements and new features for end users, such as tabbed browsing and RSS support. On Windows Vista exclusively, Internet Explorer 7 will run in Protected Mode with the lowest possible user privileges and will not be allowed to write data to any higher-privileged part of the OS, including the Registry and most files and folders.

Windows Desktop Search speeds search of files by their content by creating a local index of information on a user’s hard drive, including the full text of Office documents, the full text of all items in Outlook or Outlook Express (including e-mail messages, calendar entries, and tasks), and any available metadata about files (such as author and date created).

Windows Media Player 11 offers minor improvements, such as better graphics, improved search, and more ways to synchronize content with portable devices.
