This chart shows the new Remote Desktop nomenclature for the former Terminal Server role and components. Remote Desktop Services is the new name for Terminal Services, a Windows Server role that enables users to access session- or virtual machine-based desktops and centrally managed applications. The names of Terminal Server management tools, such as Terminal Services Configuration Manager, have also been changed. Microsoft often refers to Terminal Services as “presentation virtualization.”
