Beginning with its 2003 fiscal year (FY’03), which started on July 1, 2002, Microsoft will report revenues in the following five categories:
Knowledge Worker is similar to the old Desktop Applications category, and it will include a variety of consumer and business applications and services, such as Office, Visio, Project, Great Plains, Navision, and bCentral; plus Client Access Licenses (CALs) for certain of the .NET Enterprise Servers, including Windows 2000 and Exchange.
Client is similar to the old Desktop Platforms category, and it will include the company’s desktop operating systems, such as Windows XP, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows NT Workstation, and Windows ME; plus embedded and mobile operating systems such as Windows CE, Windows XP Embedded, and Smartphone.
Server is similar to the old Enterprise Software and Services category, and it will include all Windows servers; server applications, including the .NET Enterprise Servers; developer tools and services; Microsoft Press; and various enterprise services, including consulting, support, and training.
