Dynamics NAV 2009 offers a new three-tier application that supports enterprise resource planning with features for financial accounting and reporting, supply chain management, human resources management, and project management and accounting.

As shown in the bottom of the illustration, Dynamics NAV 2009 stores application and business data in a SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2008 database (labeled NAV 2009 Application Database). The product uses the SQL Server Reporting Services managed reporting engine for report distribution.

The Dynamics NAV 2009 Mid-tier Server provides the following:

  • Database access components for operations such as updates and creation of records
  • Execution of Dynamics NAV application business logic
  • A new Web Services layer that allows external applications to access Dynamics NAV data and objects, such as pages and business logic
  • Client Services that support access to Dynamics NAV logic and data from the product’s Windows client application (labeled
