My Atlas / Charts & Illustrations

424 wordsTime to read: 3 min

Windows Live is part of the Platforms and Services organization, and many of its leaders are peers with the leaders of Windows and server software-two of Microsoft’s most important businesses. This chart shows the leaders of Windows Live and the remaining MSN businesses (white boxes), as well as some other prominent executives in the Platforms and Services organization (gray boxes).

Windows Live development is concentrated under three executives: Steven Sinofsky, Blake Irving, and Steve Berkowitz, whom Microsoft hired in Apr. 2006.

Sinofsky is in charge of online search (led by Chris Payne); desktop clients for Windows Live services, such as Messenger and Mail Desktop (Steve Liffick); online marketplaces, such as Expo (Mike Conte); desktop and other search initiatives (Dane Glasgow); and research into long-term opportunities for online services (Gary Flake). Sinofsky will also lead the development of the next Windows desktop OS after Vista, code-named “Vienna” (headed by Chris Jones, as well as other executives not shown on this chart).
