Major changes in Microsoft’s systems management, security, and identity management roadmap since the Dec. 2014 Enterprise Software Roadmap include the following:

  • Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 and Operations Manager 2005 left Extended support on Jan. 13, 2015.
  • Microsoft announced that the next version of System Center will be released in the first half of 2016, not late 2015 as had been expected, and that Configuration Manager will be released with Windows 10, likely in the fourth quarter of 2015.
  • Update rollups for System Center include support for SQL Server 2014 with several System Center Products.
  • The Desktop Optimization Pack 2014 R2 was released in Dec. 2014 with Application Virtualization (App-V) 5.0 SP3 and User Experience Virtualization (UE-V) 2.1.
  • Feb. 2015 and Mar. 2015 updates to Intune added to the capabilities for managing iOS mobile devices and Office mobile applications; Intune will get monthly updates from now on.
