Office for Mac 2016, available in a public preview starting in Mar. 2015, offers a new user interface (UI) that supports Apple’s Retina displays and improves full screen application support. Improved collaboration features mean documents can easily be shared from within each application using e-mail, OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, and SharePoint. Such improvements mean both consumers and businesses are likely to upgrade from the dated Office 2011 suite. The suite’s complete features, pricing, and availability have not yet been announced, but it is expected to be available in the second half of 2015.

Modern Office for Modern Macs

In addition to a streamlined UI with full support for Apple’s high-resolution Retina displays, Office for Mac 2016 includes a redesigned and a simplified Ribbon.

Office for Mac 2016 also offers the following updated and improved features:

Improved collaboration. In contrast to the previous version, Office 2011, now authors can easily save documents to OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, and SharePoint Online or SharePoint on-premises. Documents can also be easily e-mailed to collaborators using the same tools, without leaving the Office application. Comments within documents are now threaded, offering a way to more easily spot the most recent comment.
