With the release of Visual Studio 2015, three editions of Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) target developers, testers, and architects of applications for Microsoft’s platforms and services, and one edition targets administrators.

Visual Studio Professional with MSDN (center), which targets most developers, includes products and services including Visual Studio Professional with its integrated development environment (IDE), as well as access to the Windows client and server OSs, SQL Server, Team Foundation Server, training, and support.

Visual Studio Test Professional with MSDN (right), which targets testers, includes a subset of products and services included in MSDN Professional and adds other products and services designed to facilitate the testing of software and the management of a test environment or lab. With the move to Agile methodologies, many organizations may be reducing the number of testers as developers take a more active role in testing their software. This level of testing may only require access to test tools, which is available through Visual Studio Online levels or Team Foundation Server.
