Analyst ReportVisio Roadmap Update
Development priorities for Visio include a viewer for iPad and updates to Web services and data visualization, according to an Aug. 2016 announcement by Microsoft. Visio enables users to create business and technical diagrams at lower cost and with less training than alternatives, and it is an important platform in some organizations for data visualization and specialized design applications. Improvements to the product will appear first, and possibly only, in its subscription edition.
Visio Overview
Visio is a Windows client application for creating business and technical diagrams, such as network diagrams, flowcharts, organization charts, and office layouts. For these tasks, Visio can be simpler and less expensive than other computer-aided design systems, and its large library of predefined shapes enables faster creation than general purpose drawing tools such as the Office Shapes component. Visio also enables dynamic data visualizations, such as network diagrams that show current system status, through a data-linked diagram feature. Customers and third parties use Visio as a platform for specialized design applications (for example, configuring orders of equipment).
