  • Office 365 Video, Microsoft’s hosted video service for Office 365, will be retired in favor of Microsoft Stream.
  • Automatic migrations from Office 365 Video to Stream will begin on Mar. 1, 2020.
  • Organizations have until Mar. 1, 2020, to opt in to delaying migration until Mar. 1, 2021.

Microsoft Stream and Office 365 Video are Microsoft-hosted services for viewing, sharing, discussing, and discovering an organization’s video content, and they provide organizations with more control over content access than consumer services.

What Is Stream?

Stream, which will replace Office 365 Video in Mar. 2021, integrates with Office 365 Groups and Microsoft Teams, and leverages Azure for infrastructure and storage. The service offers several features not available in Office 365 Video, including the following:

  • Available closed captioning of audio content
  • Available face detection within video content
  • Live events (similar to Skype Meeting Broadcast)
  • Recording of audio, video, and screensharing
