The Windows App Health Analyzer (App Health Analyzer) is designed to help an organization identify line-of-business (LOB) or custom applications that may block Windows version deployments due to compatibility problems.

LOB applications, typically legacy applications using deprecated or unsupported components, can often block deployments, even though many of these applications are used by a small number of users or infrequently.

The App Health Analyzer checks for the following:

Specific criteria, which Microsoft calls signals, to rate an application as a high, medium, or low compatibility risk. Signals that App Health Analyzer looks for include dependencies on frameworks (such as .Net, Visual C++, or Silverlight), runtimes (such as Java or Visual Basic 6), and drivers.

Violations or issues such as a specific OS version dependency or applications which must run with admin or escalated privileges.

Other issues, such as no High-DPI (graphics) awareness, use of 16-bit applications, and whether the application has known user interface (UI) issues.
