Desktop Analytics is a Microsoft-hosted service designed to work with Configuration Manager on-premises to test and deploy Windows 10 versions. Desktop Analytics uses diagnostic data from Windows 10 devices (lower left). The data is collected by the Windows 10 diagnostic service, Click-to-Run, and App Health Analyzer. In addition, Configuration Manager collects inventory data about desktop assets.

The data is analyzed by Azure Log Analytics (top) to determine the readiness or compatibility of an organization’s devices and applications for a Windows 10 version. The readiness assessment is then used to create a collection or ring of users and devices for a pilot (test).

In addition to using an organization’s data, the service uses comparisons with other anonymized and Aggregated Diagnostic and Readiness Data from other organizations and users to ensure data is complete and accurate.

The information about the pilot is synced with Configuration Manager, which is then used to deploy the pilot and, following a successful pilot, for broad deployment.
