Analyst ReportTeams Premium and Copilot in Teams: Which Do You Need?
- Teams Premium and Copilot in Teams (part of Microsoft 365 Copilot) are both add-ons that deliver additional features beyond the base Teams product.
- The two offerings both include Intelligent recap but otherwise address different uses, and neither replaces or includes the other.
- Event organizers will benefit most from Teams Premium while Copilot in Teams offers more capabilities for meeting attendees and notetakers.
- Organizations purchasing Microsoft 365 Copilot will likely still want Teams Premium for some users, especially organizers of customer-facing events.
Teams Premium is an add-on User Subscription License (User SL) that provides additional capabilities on top of the base Teams product, most of which focus on enhancing Teams events such as meetings and Webinars. In contrast, Copilot in Teams is a set of features included in Microsoft 365 Copilot, which is an add-on User SL that enhances Office 365 applications with generative AI capabilities. Both add-ons include the Intelligent recap feature—which generates meeting notes, analyzes speakers, and suggests tasks from meeting recordings and transcripts—but are otherwise separate and distinct. Customers should consider which specific capabilities they need before purchasing one, the other, or both.
