- Interested customers should begin planning now for Places core features and consider evaluation of the enhanced capabilities.
- Note: This report was updated to reflect that Places will begin rolling out to customers in Dec. 2024 and will be enabled by default for eligible users.
Places, which Microsoft originally announced in 2022 as a “connected workplace platform,” is an Office 365 service that expands the basic scheduling features of Exchange Online to include location awareness and other capabilities to support a hybrid workforce. It is intended to help employees optimize their in-office time for collaboration with coworkers and find work and meeting spaces. It also is designed to provide employers and facility managers with analytics to optimize facility usage. In public preview since May 2024, Places is planned to begin rollout to customers in Dec. 2024 with core features available to existing Microsoft 365 users at no additional cost, but with enhanced features requiring Teams Premium User Subscription Licenses (User SLs). Customers can start planning for the core capabilities and should evaluate whether the enhanced features justify the additional per-user cost.
