RoadmapEvent Hubs Roadmap
Azure Event Hubs provides a brokering service for streaming data, collecting streams from publishing applications (such as operational logging systems) and sending them to subscribing systems (such as a real-time production dashboard). It is compatible with Apache Kafka, a popular product for streaming data, but it is not built on the open source software, and it supports other APIs and protocols as well.
Product: Event Hubs
Near Term (2024–2025)
Event Hubs is a mature service but occasionally receives new features.
Development of Azure Event Hubs slowed in 2024 compared with 2023. The most important new feature in 2024 has been Event Hubs integration with Fabric Real-Time Intelligence (RTI), enabling existing Kafka and Event Hubs applications to connect to the new Fabric solution.
The service will likely receive more Fabric integration features, and features to maintain compatibility with Kafka. It could also add a connector for Purview Data Governance, enabling that service to discover potentially sensitive streams by examining stored data and Event Hubs’ catalog.
