Maps Roadmap

Azure Maps provides geospatial data through rendered maps and APIs. The service could be useful for mobile, IoT, and other types of applications with mapping and geospatial data requirements.

Near Term (2025–2026)

Azure Maps APIs and the Azure Maps Web Control, which has separate client APIs, receive minor updates, mostly for performance and security improvements.

Upcoming retirements include the following:

• Maps Render V1 APIs will be retired in Sept. 2026; Maps Render V2 APIs should be used instead
• Maps Web SDK Map Controls Version 1.xx will be retired in Sept. 2026; Maps Web SDK Map Controls Version 3.xx should be used instead.

Long Term (Beyond 2026)

Azure Maps, which became generally available in May 2018, is a mature service that is not expected to receive major changes. Possible updates include availability in more Azure regions and more integration with Copilot for Azure to enable improved natural language interactivity with the service.
