RoadmapSignalR Roadmap
The Azure SignalR service simplifies deployment and implementation of Web applications that use SignalR, especially those that need to scale to support high traffic. The SignalR technology offered in ASP.NET enables developers to build Web applications that include real-time client-server communication for features such as real-time chat, dashboards that automatically update, and broadcasts to multiple clients.
Product: SignalR Service
Near Term (2025–2026)
After its introduction in Sept. 2018, the SignalR service saw a steady stream of improvements. But since the introduction of a Premium tier in July 2022, the pace of development has stalled, with no major enhancements in the last three years and none publicly announced.
Long Term (Beyond 2026)
Given the lack of near-term announcements, Microsoft’s long-term intentions with the SignalR service are unclear.
Directions Recommends
Investigate alternatives. Although the SignalR service continues to be supported, the noticeable slowdown in feature development is a signal that Microsoft may not be prioritizing the SignalR service. Developers may want to investigate alternatives, such as Azure Web PubSub, even if only for the purpose of creating a contingency plan to avoid last-minute surprises.
