Near Term (2025–2026)
Microsoft releases major versions of .NET annually, typically in November. The current version (.NET 9) shipped in Nov. 2024. In addition to the typical set of performance and developer productivity improvements that accompany every release, .NET 9 introduced AI building blocks including experimental support for tensor data types—a data type similar to an array that is commonly used in machine learning and other AI applications.
.NET 10 is currently in preview and due in Nov. 2026. In addition to further performance and productivity enhancements, the AI building blocks are likely to graduate from experimental to supported status.
