Microsoft is rethinking its small business accounting strategy. Shown here are Microsoft’s primary business management products for organizations under 50 employees. In general, the company is focusing its small-business investments on ERP products such as Dynamics GP and NAV, and has been discontinuing or scaling back development on accounting products for the smallest businesses.

Product Description Status
Office Accounting Professional and Express Accounting, inventory management, and payroll integrated with Office for organizations of up to 25 employees. The Express edition (which lacks some functions, such as inventory management) is free. Available in the United States and United Kingdom. Version 2009 released Nov. 2008, SP1 Apr. 2009. Upgrade to 2009 Professional is free to existing Professional customers.
Small Business Financials Accounting, inventory management, and payroll for companies with between 10 to 49 employees, based on Dynamics GP.
