Major changes in Microsoft’s systems management roadmap since the Apr. 2008 Enterprise Software Roadmap include the following:

  • SP1 for Configuration Manager 2007 was released in May 2008; it adds support for Windows Server 2008 and Hyper-V (on its release).
  • A Data Protection Manager “rollup update” released June 2008 added tape library sharing, support for Windows Server 2008 Server Core configurations, and other improvements.
  • Mobile Device Manager 2008, a management product for smart phones and other portable devices, was released in Apr. 2008.
  • The Capacity Planner architecture guidance and performance prediction tool received an update in May 2008 to support modeling of Operations Manager 2007.
  • Forefront Security for SharePoint SP2 was released in Apr. 2008; it is the first version to support Windows Server 2008.
  • A beta version of Forefront Security for Communications Server was released in June 2008; the production version, planned for late 2008, will support the
