Security Products Overview

Some Forefront products received updates in 2009 and others are planned for 2010. A licensing bundle, Forefront Protection Suite, previously code-named Stirling, will include Forefront Endpoint Protection, Forefront Protection for Exchange Server, Forefront Online Protection for Exchange, Forefront Protection for SharePoint, Forefront Threat Management Gateway Web Protection Service, and Forefront Protection Manager, which provides a unified console and reporting and analysis components. Instant message scanning (with Forefront Protection for Communications Server) will not be in the Forefront Protection Suite initial release, but it is planned for a later one. Forefront products will continue to be available separately.

Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG) 2010 (the next version of ISA Server) was released in Nov. 2009. It is the first Forefront product to use the Forefront Threat Management Gateway Web Protection Service, which accesses Microsoft Reputation Services (a cloud-based URL categorization service) to help protect users from browsing to malicious Web sites.
