Major changes in Microsoft’s systems management, security, and identity management roadmap since the Mar. 2012 Enterprise Software Roadmap include the following:

  • New versions of all products in the System Center line were released in Apr. 2012
  • Beta versions of updates to Virtual Machine Manager 2012 and Data Protection Manager 2012 allow those products to work with Windows Server 2012 beta
  • Endpoint Protection was updated and moved from the Forefront line to join System Center 2012
  • System Center 2012 introduces a new licensing model: most individual products will no longer be available separately but must be acquired as part of a System Center licensing bundle, which includes eight products
  • AVIcode has been merged into Operations Manager
  • Opalis has been renamed Orchestrator
  • Advisor has been extended to allow monitoring of Exchange Server, SharePoint Server, and SQL Server 2012
  • A Windows Intune prerelease lets administrators manage mobile devices such as tablets
