Two new devices were announced by Microsoft in Oct. 2015 and target business users seeking a Windows 10 device capable of serving as a desktop PC replacement. Surface Pro 4 delivers the most recent version of Microsoft’s professional tablet with magnetic Type Cover keyboard. The new device is thinner and lighter, with the same overall width, but now offers a larger 12.3-inch display in a chassis that is the same width as the Surface Pro 3.

Surface Book introduces an entirely new class of device for Microsoft, intended to be used primarily as a laptop, but with a hinged keyboard that can be folded back against the tablet portion housing the 13.5-inch display or removed entirely. The base of the Surface Book houses an NVIDIA discrete graphics processing unit (GPU), enabling the device to be used for graphics-intensive tasks when attached to the base. Windows Hello camera-based authentication is included on both the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book.

Both Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book are based on the latest Intel processors (“Skylake”), intended to deliver a good mix of performance and power efficiency. Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book customers cannot add LTE wireless connectivity at the time of purchase.
