Customer-facing Microsoft field staff are organized into teams across the company’s sales, service, and developer evangelism organizations. Key organizations, and the most commonly encountered roles within each, are shown here.

The Enterprise and Partner Group (EPG) serves Microsoft’s large corporate and enterprise customers and the partners that sell to this segment. Additional groups (not shown here) serve public sector customers such as governments and educational institutions, small-to-midmarket customers, and consulting partners.

Within EPG, an account may be served by several groups. An Account Team Unit (ATU) contains sales and technical contacts who are assigned to specific customers. The account executive and account technology strategist are part of the ATU.

A Specialist Team Unit (STU) provides more technical sales assistance to ATUs on the basis of product or technology. Technology solutions professionals and solutions architects are part of an STU. Similar teams (not shown here) provide sales assistance to a particular vertical industry, such as healthcare or finance.
