Exchange clients offer similar capabilities for e-mail, contacts, and calendar but differ in other areas. The accompanying chart lists differences among major clients from Microsoft for Exchange Server and Exchange Online. Organizations can use this chart to help decide which Exchange clients to recommend and support. In many cases, organizations will recommend a platform-specific client application for normal use and Exchange’s Web interface, Outlook on the Web (formerly Outlook Web App [OWA]), as a fallback client.

Clients listed include Outlook Windows and Mac desktop applications, Outlook on the Web, and touch-oriented mobile applications for iOS, Android, and the Windows 10 Universal Windows Platform (UWP). Two Outlook desktop application editions are listed for Windows: the “premium” edition that ships in Office Professional Plus, Office 365 ProPlus, and stand-alone in Microsoft Volume Licensing and the “standard” edition that ships in Office Standard. Outlook for Mac is the edition that ships in Microsoft Volume Licensing.
