BizTalk Server 2010, Microsoft’s product for application integration and business-to-business (B2B) commerce, delivers new components to help customers expose line-of-business (LOB) application functionality outside of their organizations, improved tools and management capabilities that could reduce the burden on developers and IT personnel, and compatibility with Microsoft’s most recent server products. However, BizTalk Server 2010 pricing is higher than BizTalk Server 2009, primarily due to the inclusion of adapters that were previously optional.

Application Integration and B2B Commerce

BizTalk Server includes a messaging engine that serves as a hub for application-to-application communication and a workflow system (called Orchestration) for programming business processes that cut across applications. BizTalk has built-in management tools, such as Business Activity Monitoring, which enables organizations to capture and analyze status data from business processes; the BizTalk Mapper, which provides a graphical user interface to define how to translate message formats between applications; and Visual Studio plug-ins for developing custom integration solutions on BizTalk.
