Exchange Server customers should expect higher subscription fees, more frequent update rollouts, and some disruption in the near future. Customers who nevertheless want to keep Exchange in their own or partners’ data centers must migrate to Exchange Server Subscription Edition (SE), the next version. There is no supported alternative: On Oct. 14, 2025, all other versions of Exchange Server leave support.

July 1, 2025: Updated with Exchange Server SE general availability and blocking of unsupported versions in 2026.

Product: Exchange Server

Licensing: Exchange Server

Near Term (2025)

The first production release of Exchange Server SE became generally available on July 1, 2025. Customer should start final testing and deployment of this release, before support ends for all other Exchange Server versions on Oct.14, 2025 (see fig. 1).

Microsoft says that Exchange Server SE is “code equivalent” to Exchange Server 2019 with Cumulative Update (CU) 15, released Feb. 2025, and the latest security updates. (See “Exchange Server Cumulative Updates” for an explanation of CUs).
