Microsoft has added link protection to Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat to offer users protection from questionable URLs offered up by the GPT-based service. Users will see warnings about links to questionable sites in the service’s responses and be encouraged to cancel navigation. Time-of-click reputation checking will help detect potentially malicious sites. Basic time-of-click navigation warnings are available with Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat at no additional cost. However, users licensed for Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 1 or Plan 2 will receive full SafeLinks capabilities, such as behavior analysis to detect previously unknown malicious sites. Subscribers to Plan 1 or 2 will also have suspect sites logged and available in the URL protection report. In addition, links will no longer be redacted if the URL is found in the grounding data used to generate the Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat response, allowing links to already trusted sites to be available to users. The features have already been added to desktop, Web, and mobile versions of Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat, with the Office desktop applications to follow. More details about SafeLinks for Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat are available from Microsoft, and in message center post MC1013453 for Microsoft 365 administrators.
