  • Excel Organization Data Types retire on July 31, 2025; does not impact other Data Types.
  • Users should switch to Excel Get Data for similary functionality.

Excel’s Organization Data Types, a preconfigured method for querying Power BI datasets, is retiring on July 31, 2025. Excel users can replace the functionality by querying the data through Excel’s Get Data feature, using Power BI tools, or creating custom Excel add-ins. Of the three, Excel’s Get Data feature will be the simplest and quickest option. The retirement does not affect other Excel Data Types or the Data Type gallery. According to the announcement, the retirement will simplify the use of data types, although it is more likely that low user adoption does not justify Microsoft’s continued support of the feature.

Excel Data Types

Excel provides a data analysis feature called Data Types that converts simple data (such as lists of stock tickers or geographical places) into an object that shows up in Excel’s Data Type gallery and performs a predefined query.
