  • Windows 11 Enterprise hotpatching, which enables security update patches with fewer reboots, is generally available as of July 2025.
  • Hotpatching for Windows 11 requires Enterprise edition on x64 and Arm64 processors, without additional subscription requirements.
  • Hotpatches cover only the OS and do not eliminate reboots for quarterly baseline updates or unscheduled security updates.

Windows 11 Enterprise hotpatching, which has been available as a no-cost preview since late 2024, is now generally available. Hotpatching enables planned security updates without reboots, which can result in faster update deployment and reduced maintenance downtime. Previously, hotpatching was available only for server editions of Windows. This new feature brings hotpatching to Windows 11 Enterprise 24H2 and later and does not require any additional subscription or fees. Hotpatching will help minimize reboots and could help overcome users’ tendency to defer patches until the last possible moment. However, systems still need conventional baseline updates and reboots at least quarterly.
