  • The Project Online service will shut down in Sept. 2026 and remove access to all customer data in the service.
  • Customers should immediately start migrating to an alternative.
  • Consider both stability and licensing when choosing an alternative.

Project Online, a Microsoft-hosted cloud service, will shut down on Sept. 30, 2026, according to Microsoft, and remove access to all customer data in the service. Customers should immediately begin moving to a Microsoft-recommended replacement or to a third-party alternative such as Oracle Primavera. However, it will be hard to complete the move by the Sept. 2026 deadline.

Microsoft Replacements for Project Online

Microsoft recommends that customers move Project Online systems to one of the following products.

Project Server Subscription Edition (SE) is an optional, paid component of the SharePoint Server SE software. It offers the fastest route off Project Online, which was originally based on Project Server. However, Microsoft has not improved either Project Online or Project Server since 2019, and has been encouraging customers to move to Project for the Web and its recent replacement, Planner.
