  • Knowledge Agent can simplify the challenges of maintaining SharePoint Online document libraries and Web content.
  • However, its Autofill feature can disrupt enterprise content management programs, which may affect regulated industries and records management programs.
  • Admin tools like SharePoint Advanced Management can help secure access to Knowledge Agent.
  • Licensed through M365 Copilot, Knowledge Agent could potentially consume significant AI resources that make a hybrid consumption model likely in the future.

Knowledge Agent (in preview) is an AI assistant designed to help users manage content in SharePoint Online sites, but not the sites themselves. The site-based agent includes Autofill for populating metadata in document libraries and finding outdated Web pages and broken links for SharePoint intranets. This capability can help alleviate the manual effort of maintaining content, making it easier for users to find files, and exclude old content from use by Microsoft 365 Copilot, improving its responses. The agent is included with an M365 Copilot license during preview, but Microsoft has not finalized licensing or announced a date for general availability (GA).
