A Microsoft-led open source project could help BizTalk Server customers migrate to Azure Logic Apps by Jan. 2030, when all BizTalk Server sales and support will end. BizTalk Server is legacy application integration software that Microsoft plans to replace with the Azure Logic Apps cloud service. The BizTalk Migration Starter is an open source set of command-line tools for translating a customer’s BizTalk messaging and workflow (Orchestration) components into corresponding Azure Logic Apps components. A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server can help customers use AI tools like GitHub Copilot and Claude Code to speed up the migration process. The migration process is not fully automated and does not cover all possible cases, but it could help developers focus their efforts on the biggest migration blockers. Microsoft’s application integration plans are outlined in the Directions Application Platforms Roadmap. More details on the tools are at “A BizTalk Migration Tool: From Orchestrations to Logic Apps Workflows” (Microsoft).
