Azure Event Hubs is a managed service that routes event streams from source to destination applications. The service collects log entries, notifications, and other event records from publishing applications (for example, a production mangagement system), and organizes the data for retrieval by subscribing applications (for example, a real-time production dashboard). Event Hubs can work with many applications through compatibility with the Apache Kafka open-source streaming software and other streaming technologies. Event Hubs is mature and still a viable choice for new products, although Fabric Real-Time Intelligence (RTI), a new streaming service, is getting more recent Microsoft development.

Near Term (2026–2027)

Event Hubs development has been slowing over the last two years. Currently Microsoft lists no Event Hub features in development on the Azure Updates site. The most recent new feature was in May 2026, when Microsoft rolled out Event Hubs support for Azure Confidential Computing, which uses hardware security to block some types of advanced threats.
