BizTalk accelerators and adapters must be updated to run on BizTalk Server 2004. BizTalk Server 2004 APIs for messaging components (such as message parsers) and adapters (which connect messaging components to specific applications) are not fully compatible with those of earlier versions. BizTalk Server 2004’s orchestration engine, for defining and executing long-running, cross-application transactions, is also incompatible with the engine of earlier versions.

As a result, Microsoft and partner ISVs must update their adapters and other BizTalk Server add-on components, which are often delivered in packages called accelerators. Shown here are Microsoft’s current plans for delivering BizTalk Server 2004 support for the most important adapters and accelerators that it sells.
