Antigen products are still available to Forefront server security customers to protect older Microsoft product versions. Customers can acquire the Antigen products through downgrades from Forefront server security products, described in Microsoft’s Product Use Rights document. In Jan. 2009, Microsoft announced end-of-life extensions for Sybari Antigen for Exchange 8.0 and Sybari Antigen for SMTP Gateways 8.0, from Dec. 31, 2008, to Dec. 31, 2009, to accommodate antivirus needs of customers who are still running versions of Exchange prior to Exchange 2000. In July 2009, Microsoft released SP2 for Antigen products with new antispam technology acquired through a partnership with Cloudmark. Microsoft says this will result in better antispam protection, including higher detection rates and fewer false positives. Although multiple scanning engines can still be configured, SP2 offers fewer antimalware scanning engines as alternatives.

Note that Symantec no longer supports Antigen for IM on Symantec IM Manager, a public IM gateway product that was formerly known as IMLogic IM Manager.
